Sodus Fishing Seasons and Techniques

Fishing in Sodus, though similar to many other ports in some ways, is unique.  This is due to a number of factors.  Our location and other geographic features; i.e. the bluffs, Sodus Bay (the largest bay on the south shore), and the lack of a major tributary all play a role.

April/early May- focused mostly on Brown trout fishing near shore.  We also have a consistent laker fishery and sporadic action on salmon.

Mid May through mid June- we still very good brown trout fishing this time of year. However, this time of year we also have a great steelhead fishery (at times).  Lakers are still around in good numbers and some salmon start to show with more consistency.

Late June and July- probably the best time to catch BIG browns.  Salmon start to be consistent in both the near shore and offshore fishery.

August/Sept- staging kings predominant in the near shore area, with some inconsistent but at times great offshore king fishing, as well as sporadic brown and steelhead fishing
