Spring 2023- brown trout, lake trout and perch out of sodus bay

Spring 2023- brown trout, laker trout and perch out of sodus bay

April 30- persistent south winds have trashed the shoreline bite; however, the offshore bite for kings and coho has heated up- from 100 to 200 fow.  Lakers are in 120-140, and there’s even a few steelies around.  Surface temps were down to 41 on shore- they were 50+ last week.
Perch are about done, but the rock bass are about to get fired up around the docks.

April 27- brown fishing remains excellent, when conditions are good!  There have been intermittent  kings around, and the laker fishing is good 100-130 with cowbells and grease traps.  The weather this weekend will be crappy for boating- but likely good for fishing.  The perch are about spawned out and on their way to the lake soon.  Pike and walleye season starts may 1- they can be found along weed edges and near drop offs near the islands.

April 8 2023- The bay is completely ice-free, and docks are going in around the bay. Anglers have found perch in the bays, and they should be here for at least a few more weeks.  Out in the lake, the trolling has been good so far. There’s a good class of young brown trout around, as well as some coho.  Find the warm, colored water and cast small spoons or troll stickbaits for them.  As is often the case this time of year, you should be able to find lake trout from about 80 feet of water and deeper, if you want!

There’s a whole stable of excellent charters to choose from if you want to get out!

Remember that in small boats, you must use a life jacket until may 1st- it’s the law!  The bay water temp is only in the 40s so please be careful out there!!
